Born amidst the squalor of Missouri back country, my childhood resembled something you might see in an episode of Hee-Haw or heard about from Toby Keith. In early 1990, with fear of a massive eastern Missouri earthquake and an ever-so-subtle argument with a mother-in-law, my parents decided to give their baby boy an opportunity to have all his teeth, I mean, to live in the "big" city! Kansas City here I come.
Growing up in North Kansas City I had my fair share of excitement, like when they built the new Wal-Mart next to the old Wal-Mart that was next to the new Best Buy that was next to the old Best Buy. By middle school my southern accent had all but disappeared but my thirst for life had not! I graduated from Oak Park High School and decided I was destined for Super-Stardom so I grew a beard and mullet and joined a rock band. Spent the next 7 years living in and out of a van playing college towns and dive bars but fate had a different plan for me.
While on tour a fellow friend needed a haircut and as a joke I offered to cut his hair, and to my surprise he agreed to let me (the man with no formal training who hadn't cut much more then construction paper his whole life) do just that. So armed with a pair of Fiskar orange handled "everything" scissors I attempted my first haircut. My friend had both his ears, I had all of my fingers, his hair looked better then did, and everyone in the room was astounded at the result, all in all a success. Shortly after this I decided that this new found ability was worth a serious look and enrolled at Paris II School of Cosmetology to get my PhD. (professional hair degree.....little stylist humor for ya.....check one,two....is this thing on?)
Flash forward 7 years and I am behind the chair at Skyline Salon loving what I do. Over the course of the past 7 years I have worked on countless fashion shows and photo shoots, as well as backstage for Redken in Las Vegas, American Crew in St Louis, and Nick Arrojo in New York. While I would say that I can conquer any challenge, especially when it come to hair, I do have my personal specialities. Fine hair is my speciality, being able to give my client a look that they can do at home that is edgy and sexy with their fine hair is a thrill. I also love color, whether it's your first time, hi-light touch up, getting rid of that pesky grey, or needing a fix for that "great idea" you and your sister had last night I got you covered. My eye for detail and meticulous crafting of your hair will have your hair thanking you.
You have the hair, I have the chair, lets work something out. (..... seriously guys I don't think the mics on!!)

A (almost) forgotten art, a great concert poster
So I figured I would start my blogging off with a subject that few know is dear to my heart.... concert posters. Now alot of people instantly jump to the conclusion I am talking about the flyers stapled to telephone poles and dingy walls of clubs to try to convince passer-bys to venture into a land they may not know to see a more then likely sub-par group for a $5 cover. This is absolutely not the case. The posters I speak of are generally in the 18x24 size, screenprinted and designed by some of the best artist, are limited in quanity but soars above in quality. Artist such as Emek (www.emek.net), Ames Bros. (www.amesbros.com), Jeff Soto (www.jeffsoto.com), and Brad Klausen (www.artillerydesign.com) are some of my favorites. They are the masterminds behind most of the posters I own and most that I covet. For you that don't know my favorite band is Pearl Jam and they have kept the rock poster alive for the past 17 years having a specific poster designed for almost every show they ever do and the guys mentioned above supply the art. This small detail brings a certain something with every show, blogs blow up with photos of the poster from that night show leaving collectors foaming at the mouth for the chance to purchase the art they like the most. Meanwhile other artist have picked up on the trend and hired the same guys to do the same for them, Muse, Dave Matthews, Iron and Wine, and Ted Leo are just a few. The art is beautiful and looks fantastic framed and in the house. When I told my wife I wanted to hang rock posters in the house she immediately thought of thumbtacks and torn corners of teenaged bedrooms past until I showed her what a "real" poster was, now the house has a feel of an art gallery and I couldn't be happier. So do yourself a favor and check out the websites of these guys, you may just find yourself a piece of art.
